Orna-Berry

When: 7:30am – 9:00am, April 28, 2015

Where: The Lord Nelson, 1515 South Park street Halifax, NS

What: A hot buffet breakfast and talk with Dr. Orna Berry

Many of you will have heard the announcement about the new Ocean     Innovation Centre being proposed for the old Coast Guard Base in Dartmouth.   This will become a true ocean science and technology incubator for the whole region, helping to take our ocean tech sector to even higher levels.

As we all work together to define the details of how this will work, we want to listen to and learn from global experts who have succeeded in establishing technology-based incubators in various sectors and in various locations.    We want to adopt their successes and avoid their mistakes!

One of the global successes in start-up business incubation is Israel.   A great read on this is “Start-up Nation” by Dan Senor and Saul Singer.

In that light, we’re very pleased to invite you to a breakfast with Dr. Orna Berry.
Dr. Orna Berry is one of Israel’s leading business figures. As Corporate Vice President of EMC Corporation and general manager of its Israel Centre of Excellence, Dr. Berry led EMC Corporation to be the pioneer company to join Be’er Sheba Advanced Technology Park (ATP).

The Advanced Technology Park in Be’er Sheba is a unique public-private partnership blending the outstanding achievements of Ben-Gurion University with high-tech companies seeking to develop innovative commercial applications for the world.  The Halifax Ocean Innovation Centre aims to create the same unique partnership between public and private sectors. Dr. Berry will share lessons learned through the development of that Park and how we can apply these to the development of an Ocean Innovation Hub in Halifax.
