The genesis for a collaborative Atlantic Canada marine research institution was sparked at a Global Ocean Forum in Halifax in March of 2009. Following two years of consultation with our founding partners, Halifax Marine Research Institute was formed, with a formal launch celebrated during Oceans Week in June of 2011. Renamed Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise (IORE) in 2014, the Institute continues its collaborative focus as a vehicle for creating sustainable economic activity from ocean research in Atlantic Canada.
Atlantic Canada hosts several federal research laboratories, multiple universities and a growing ocean sciences & technology industry sector. Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise (IORE) is building partnerships among these groups to promote and apply the benefits of scientific research to social, economic and environmental challenges. In cooperation with our members and strategic partners, we translate science into real economic opportunity.
