Darren Smith, originally from Prince Edward Island, moved to Halifax with his wife in 1997 to complete his Mechanical Engineering degree at TUNS. In 2000, he began his first professional job as a Field Engineer in the east coast offshore oilfield. After almost nine years as a Field Engineer and then as Directional Driller, it was time for a life change after the birth of his daughter. No longer interested in being away from home for long periods, it was time to pursue a career that kept him closer to home. He accepted the position of Test Engineer with Composites Atlantic in 2010 at their Environmental Simulation Laboratory, located in Woodside, Nova Scotia. After 4 years, Composites Atlantic decided to sell the lab, giving Darren and three other investors the opportunity to take control of the lab, now called ESL Technology Inc.
ESL Techology inc. is always in the process of working to improve exposure to the many local companies who can benefit from their services, but may not be aware of their presence here. Through working with many local companies, the lab has proven itself to be a very important service throughout all the development stages involved in the creation of the many great products that are produced here in Nova Scotia. Darren will be talking about the lab and its capabilities regarding the oceanographic sector.
